چکیده

The original rough set model was developed by Pawlak, which is mainly concerned with the approximation of sets described by a single binary relation on the universe. In the view of granular computing, the classical rough set theory is established through a single granulation. This paper extends Pawlak’s rough set model to amulti-granulation rough set model (MGRS), where the set approximations are defined by using multi equivalence relations on the universe. A number of important properties of MGRS are obtained. It is shown that some of the properties of Pawlak’s rough set theory are special instances of those of MGRS. Moreover, several important measures, such as accuracy measure a, quality of approximation c and precision of approximation p, are presented, which are re-interpreted in terms of a classic measure based on sets, the Marczewski–Steinhaus metric and the inclusion degree measure. A concept of approximation reduct is introduced to describe the smallest attribute subset that preserves the lower approximation and upper approximation of all decision classes in MGRS as well. Finally, we discuss how to extract decision rules using MGRS. Unlike the decision rules (‘‘AND” rules) from Pawlak’s rough set model, the form of decision rules in MGRS is ‘‘OR”. Several pivotal algorithms are also designed, which are helpful for applying this theory to practical issues. The multi-granulation rough set model provides an effective approach for problem solving in the context of multi granulations. 2009 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

Incomplete Multigranulation Based on Rough Intuitionistic Fuzzy Sets

Rough set theory introduced by Pawlak [8] is based on equivalence relations. The definition of basic rough sets depends upon a single equivalence relation defined on the universe or several equivalence relations taken one each taken at a time. In the view of granular computing, classical rough set theory is based upon single granulation. The basic rough set model was extended to rough set model...

Multi-granulation fuzzy probabilistic rough sets and their corresponding three-way decisions over two universes

This article introduces a general framework of multi-granulation fuzzy probabilistic roughsets (MG-FPRSs) models in multi-granulation fuzzy probabilistic approximation space over twouniverses. Four types of MG-FPRSs are established, by the four different conditional probabilitiesof fuzzy event. For different constraints on parameters, we obtain four kinds of each type MG-FPRSs...

On Some Topological Properties of Pessimistic Multigranular Rough Sets

Rough set theory was introduced by Pawlak as a model to capture impreciseness in data and since then it has been established to be a very efficient tool for this purpose. The definition of basic rough sets depends upon a single equivalence relation defined on the universe or several equivalence relations taken one each at a time. There have been several extensions to the basic rough sets introd...

A rule-extraction framework under multigranulation rough sets

The multigranulation rough set (MGRS) is becoming a rising theory in rough set area, which offers a desirable theoretical method for problem solving under multigranulation environment. However, it is worth noticing that how to effectively extract decision rules in terms of multigranulation rough sets has not been more concerned. In order to address this issue, we firstly give a general ruleextr...

Local and Global Measurements of MGRS Rules

Since the multigranulation rough sets (MGRS) can be considered as the compositions of multi– independent Pawlak’s rough sets, the multigranulation rough set rules (MGRS rules) are then the compositions of decision rules, which are supported by multi–independent Pawlak’s rough sets. To measure MGRS rules, both the local and global views are employed in this paper. In local view, the support, cer...
